The combination of reduced consumption from high-efficiency LEDs, lighting controls, and HVAC equipment replacements and electricity generation from the installed PV systems resulted in significant energy savings across the 60 buildings. Portfolio reductions in energy consumption purchased from the utility averaged 70%

Challenge
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) required cost savings through energy efficiency measures and onsite power generation at nine sites in two forests in Southern California. All measures had to be approved through the ESPC ENABLE program and work had to be completed without interruption of USDA operations.
Our Solution
The solution was comprised of three components: LED lighting and controls, HVAC equipment replacements, and solar PV systems. The project began with an investment grade audit of 60 buildings in order to evaluate existing building systems. GreenGen then engineered innovative and cost effective energy solutions that would advance the agency’s energy efficiency directives.
Engineered LED lighting and controls solutions for each of the buildings in order to maximize energy and O&M savings while ensuring safe sites and buildings by virtually eliminating dark spots caused by burnt-out or damaged legacy lighting
Replaced failing HVAC units with high-efficiency equivalents and implemented controls that utilize scheduling to ensure reduced consumption while the demand for heating and cooling systems is lower
Engineered and installed 550 kW of roof- and ground-mount PV systems that were net-metered throughout the utilities
