ESPC ENABLE: GreenGen Awarded Contract in TX & a US Forest Service Project in CA Wins Award for Environmental & Financial Stewardship
BETHESDA, MD – Green Generation Solutions, LLC’s (GreenGen) work with the federal government continues to grow and win accolades. Most recently, GreenGen was awarded a Task Order to design and install energy efficiency upgrades at three Fort Worth, Texas facilities that will reduce electricity consumption by 35 percent. The work will be done under an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) awarded to GreenGen, a DC region-based company experienced in engineering and implementing energy efficiency solutions, by the General Services Administration (GSA) Region 7 in Ft Worth under the ESPC ENABLE program.
In addition, GreenGen’s recent project with the U.S. Forest Service Region 5 was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for conserving resources and saving taxpayers’ money as part of the Federal Green Challenge (FGC). GreenGen partnered with the U.S. Forest Service Region 5 on this effort also under the ESPC ENABLE program, which provides a standardized and streamlined process for federal facilities to install targeted energy conservation measures quickly.

The GSA Region 7 contract for $2.14 million will be financed over a 13-year term to implement energy efficiency improvements that will significantly reduce electricity and natural gas consumption. GreenGen will focus on a combination of measures including lighting, water, HVAC and controls to reduce energy consumption in three buildings, including the Lanham Building, a federal parking garage, and the Mahon Courthouse. The GSA Region 7 upgrades will impact approximately 1.4 million square feet of federal assets.
GreenGen is installing nearly 16,000 solid state LED technology lamps and fixtures at the three buildingsand more efficient HVAC equipment and HVAC controls at two buildings. The lighting improvements will save in excess of $165,000 annually, and the HVAC improvements will generate over $33,000 in electrical and natural gas savings in the first year. Installation will be completed within nine months.
“The efficiencies we are bringing to the GSA through the ENABLE program will save millions of dollars forUS taxpayers and have a very positive impact on the environment,” said Colonel (Ret) Rick Gonder, GreenGen’s VP of Project Management. In fact, the GSA Region 7 ESPC will guarantee minimum first year savings of $190,344 and provide for $3.2 million in energy and cost savings for the US government during the contract term while improving the environment.
Federal Green Challenge (FGC) Award
The 2018 FGC awards recognized the 2017 achievements of federal facilities to improve efficiency, save resources, and reduce costs. The U.S. Forest Service Region 5 was recognized under the FGC’s Innovation category. Designed and implemented by GreenGen, the project featured a combination of lighting upgrades including the installation of over 6,900 solid state LED technology lamps and fixtures, 2improved HVAC controls, one-for-one HVAC replacements, and installation of over 500 kW of photovoltaic systems at nine sites across the Los Padres and San Bernardino National Forests in Southern California. The project is reducing energy use by 80 percent across the sites, saving about 4,893 million BTU of energy and $260,500 in energy costs annually. GreenGen’s work in Southern California will provide $3.65 million in energy and cost savings during the contract period.
ESPC ENABLE
The Federal Energy Management Program's ESPC ENABLE provides a standardized and streamlined process for small federal facilities to install targeted energy conservation measures. Projects are administered through the GSA Federal Supply Schedule 84, Multiple Award Schedule 334512 using a set of pre-established procurement and technical tools. The program allows agencies an opportunity to implement specific conservation measures including lighting, water, simple HVAC controls, HVAC system replacement, and solar PV.
In the past three years, GreenGen has received Notices of Intent to Award for eight Schedule 84 ESPC ENABLE projects; including a lighting upgrade for the Customs and Border Protection for 10 miles of the US border in the Yuma, Arizona sector, as well as a recently completed ENABLE project for the US Forest Service Region 6 in the Pacific Northwest reducing energy consumption throughout 392 building sat 52 sites.
