Project Manager

GreenGen currently has a new opportunity based in Bethesda, Maryland for a Project Manager to join its Solutions Team leading the final design, construction and successful implementation of energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable technology projects. As a GreenGen Project Manager, you will be working directly with GreenGen partners, energy engineers, and client executives on projects that will further develop your leadership, project management, communication, management, business/energy engineering skills.

We are looking for a self-starting, energetic individual to assist with the implementation of large, complex, and mission-critical energy services projects and work with our clients’ facilities maintenance staff and onsite vendors to identify, evaluate, implement and then monitor various cost-effective energy conservation measures (ECMs). These ECMs typically include lighting retrofits, retrocommissioning measures, and mechanical equipment replacements. ECM evaluation includes analyses of the measure’s total life-cycle cost.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years electrical, mechanical, engineering, or industrial power construction project management work experience focusing on complex facility infrastructure construction, renovations, retrofits, upgrades, building controls and automation, energy services, and renewable technology.

  • B.S. and/or M.S. degree in engineering, construction/project management or equivalent experience in a similar role;

  • Minimum 8 years’ project management experience with a commercial/ industrial electrical or mechanical contractor engaged in general building construction or similar work;

  • A strong understanding of construction means and methods associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings and/or similar site work; Demonstrated experience estimating and managing self-performed/subcontracted work including a working knowledge of civil, architectural, mechanical and electrical work;

  • Core competencies/skills in the areas of construction, communication, attention to detail, critical thinking, getting results, and problem solving.

Mandatory Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of large buildings and their mechanical and electrical systems, particularly HVAC and control systems

  • Creative problem solving

  • Strong interpersonal and client communications skills

  • Team player to inspire and mentor colleagues

  • Practical experience in energy reduction concepts and calculations

  • Ability to present analysis in understandable and compelling formats

  • Superlative quantitative analysis abilities

  • Strong computer skills and technical aptitude

Responsibilities (specific duties will vary with each project):

  • Establish and maintain onsite contact with building facilities personnel

  • Perform project management of client facilities to implement energy saving opportunities and meet with facilities personnel to address onsite issues

  • Analyze existing building systems and collect data on building operation, HVAC, electrical, lighting, and controls to determine energy usage and efficiency

  • Establish priorities for project implementation

  • Coordinate energy audits and plan for efficiency upgrades

  • Attend project meetings with owners and subcontractors related to project installation

  • Create weekly progress reports to the Solutions team; Schedule and manage subcontractors and maintain project schedules and owner and sub relationships onsite; track and report on project progress

  • Track any material or equipment purchased for the project team and once purchased schedule to ship to the project site

  • Maintain project log outlining the day to day tasks, project status, time sheets and expense reports; execute schedules and maintain time lines

  • Report any onsite safety issues that may arise during the client engagement

  • Lead and direct the work of consulting external engineers and equipment suppliers

Other tasks may include:

  • Provide expert judgment and analyses for engineering design in order to ensue owner’s requirements are fully documented, minimize first cost, improve energy efficiencies, ensure standards are met and coordinate electrical and control requirements

  • Plan and deliver presentations at meetings and training events for trade allies and customers, clients, and others

  • Review and verify energy savings calculations and guide other staff in the best practices for various energy savings technologies, including lighting, HVAC, fans, pumps, air compression, and industrial process use

  • Perform site-specific engineering analysis and evaluation of energy efficiency projects and programs involving industrial process equipment, such as pumps, fans and compressed air systems, complex central plant systems and advanced HVAC equipment

  • Coordinate rebate and incentives close out

  • Write and install energy management routines for building automation systems

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Position is based in Washington, DC metropolitan area; alternative locations may be considered for ideal candidates


Travel to client locations within the US, and possibly South America, Caribbean, and UK will be required for this role up to 30%–40% of the time
