BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is one of the world's leading green building certifications. BREEAM In-Use is its standard for existing assets, giving investors, owners and occupiers a clear view of how a building performs, how resilient it is and how it compares with peers.

A BREEAM consultant guides a building or portfolio through certification: screening assets, collecting evidence, managing the assessment with a licensed BREEAM assessor and identifying improvements that raise the rating.
BREEAM In-Use ratings run from Acceptable and Pass through Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding. Very Good and Excellent are common targets for institutional investors.
BREEAM In-Use certificates are valid for three years, after which the asset is reassessed. Many owners use that cycle to show rating improvement over time.
Cost depends on asset type, size, data availability and the number of buildings. Portfolio programs lower the cost per asset by sharing data collection and assessment across the portfolio.
